The red-footed booby is more graceful in flight
than are the blue-footed and Nazca boobies also found in the
Galapagos.
They sometimes feed on flying fish as they leap out
of the water.
The breeding cycle of the red-footed booby can be
extended to 12 months or more depending on the availability of food.
A single egg is laid in a nest made in a tree, incubation takes 45
days, then the chick fledges 130 days later. The young chick is then
still dependent on the adults for another 90 days.
