The red-footed booby is more graceful in flight than are the blue-footed and Nazca boobies also found in the Galapagos.

They sometimes feed on flying fish as they leap out of the water.

The breeding cycle of the red-footed booby can be extended to 12 months or more depending on the availability of food. A single egg is laid in a nest made in a tree, incubation takes 45 days, then the chick fledges 130 days later. The young chick is then still dependent on the adults for another 90 days.
